Explosion proof motor is a type of motor that can be used in flammable and explosive places without generating electric sparks during operation. Explosion proof motors are mainly used in coal mines, oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical industries. In addition, it is widely used in sectors such as textiles, metallurgy, urban gas, transportation, grain and oil processing, papermaking, pharmaceuticals, etc. As the main power equipment, explosion-proof motors are usually used to drive pumps, fans, compressors, and other transmission machinery.
How to connect explosion-proof motors?
The explosion-proof motor wiring should be inside the junction box, which must also be equipped with rubber sealing rings, JBQ type motor lead wires, and other explosion-proof motor accessories.
Precautions for wiring explosion-proof motors:
1. After installing the junction box, check the electrical clearance and creepage distance: 380/660V, with a small electrical clearance of 10mm and a creepage distance of 18mm. The small electrical gap of 1140V is 18mm, and the creepage distance is 30mm.
2. The inlet of the junction box is sealed by pressing the rubber ring, and the weakness of this structure is the aging and elastic failure of the rubber ring, which leads to inconsistent coordination between the cable and the rubber ring.
3. For junction boxes with dual outlet ports, unused outlet ports should be plugged with a metal seal with a thickness of no less than 2mm. The outer diameter of the metal seal should be similar to the inner diameter of the outlet hole of the inlet and outlet device to ensure that the pressure plate or compression nut is evenly pressed and tightly sealed, achieving reliable sealing.
One of the main causes of various faults in explosion-proof motors is dampness in the insulation.
So, in many cases, enclosed electrical equipment is not sufficient to protect it from adverse weather factors. Therefore, there should be some devices inside the electrical equipment casing to ensure that the climate conditions can be improved. It must include an air humidity control device, which is used to reduce the relative humidity and humidity of the air inside the casing. Occasionally falling moisture is removed from the casing and prevented from being sucked in through bearings and sealing rings.
Precautions for use and maintenance of explosion-proof motors
(1) Attention should be paid to selecting the type of explosion-proof motor according to the usage environment.
(2) Short circuit, overload, overheating, and short circuit protection should be strictly set according to requirements, and these protection devices should be regularly inspected to ensure their effectiveness.
(3) Non professional personnel are strictly prohibited from disassembling or repairing any part of the motor.
(4) The following procedure should be followed for connecting the power cord: after removing the junction box cover, unscrew the wiring hopper, take out the rubber washer in the wire inlet of the wiring base, and place these two parts on the cable.

The inner hole of the rubber gasket must be the same as the outer diameter of the cable, and there must be no significant gap. Otherwise, when pressing the wire hopper, the rubber gasket cannot form a seal with the cable. This will cause explosion outside the motor and lose its explosion-proof effect when the junction box explodes inside.
Introduce the cable from the inlet of the junction box into the box, and wrap the three core wires on their respective terminals (mining motors also need to wrap the grounding core wire on the grounding screw). Each core wire must be neatly pressed into two arched washers, and then tighten the terminal nut.
After the cable is connected, install the rubber gasket. Install the wiring harness and tighten the screws to make the end face of the wiring harness compress the rubber ring and completely clamp the cable.
(5) If disassembly is necessary, special attention should be paid to protecting the flameproof surface and winding from damage. If multiple units are disassembled and assembled at the same time, the dismantled parts should be stored separately and cannot be mixed together. If the removed parts are to be left unused for a period of time, necessary rust prevention treatment should be carried out on the explosion-proof surface.
